LibreOffice 7.0: the MS Office alternative is here

Here in Sri Lanka, many are known to use pirated software for personal and office use. However, this is a very unsafe and unethical method of installation. There is also a lack of knowledge of the availability of powerful open source software that can be downloaded at no extra cost. Of course, donations to these hard working developers and to their organisations are purely at your discretion.

LibreOffice is Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and one of the best alternatives to Microsoft Office suites. LibreOffice version 7.0 is the latest stable release of this hugely popular open source productivity suite and packed with new features, and has many improvements to compatibility and performance too.

Here are some of the new features in Writer (alternative to MS Word) and Calc (alternative to MS Excel):

• Navigator is easier to use, with more context menus
• Semi-transparent text is now supported
• Bookmarks can now be displayed in-line in text
• Padded numbering in lists, for consistency
• Better handling of quotation marks and apostrophes

• New functions for non-volatile random number generation
• Keyboard shortcut added for autosum
