Sri Lanka National Day Celebrations

Monday, February 4th, 2019

Today, Sri Lanka will celebrate its 71st Independence Day with festivities organized throughout the country. The main event will take place at Galle Face where President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presides the show. Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will attend the ceremony as Guest of Honour.

Google is also celebrating the Sri Lanka National Day with a doodle that resembles very close to the one portrayed last year. For some reason, the emphasis is on the red and green colours only. I did use the colour picker on the doodle and yes, the colours are from the flag!

Google Doodle – February 4th, 2019

So what is a Google doodle? According to Google:
“Doodles are the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.”

The Google team have created over 2000 doodles on their homepages around the world over the years.

In fact, Google users/the public can submit ideas for doodles. So remember, if you want to be creative, you can email proposals@google.com with ideas for the next Google doodle.

No Google Doodle on Independence Day

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Today, we in Sri Lanka, celebrate our 66th Independence Day and it would be celebrated with great dignity throughout the country.  The National Independence Day celebration will be held in Kegalle under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.  The celebrations in Kegalle will be held under the theme “Let us in unison build a nation that would win the world”.  So the key emphasis here is on unity and the laudable task of nation building.  Nice!

Anyway, those of you who remember, last year Google honoured Sri Lanka with a doodle on their home page.  This year there’s no doodle and it’s quite depressing.  I think we have collectively failed to make our submissions to Google.  Next year however, webmasters in Sri Lanka should unite and submit their doodle to Google well in advance.  For more information, visit their official doodles page –   http://www.google.com/doodles/about

Sri Lanka may have problems just like any other, but it’s beauty will never fade away. Keep smiling Sri Lanka and wish you all a happy independence day!
