Get a free Windows 10 upgrade even now

Windows 10 upgrade

Windows 7 users would remember Microsoft’s much-hyped free upgrade offer for Windows 10 in 2016. Many thought the offer had ended but it has not! The GWX tool may be gone, but all the other upgrade tools still work. The end result is an apparently valid digital license, and there’s no evidence that the free upgrades will end any time soon.

So if you have a licensed version of Windows 7 and want to upgrade, go for it even now:

Microsoft Windows removes warning about installing Chrome, Firefox…

Tuesday, September 18th, 2018

Windows 10 warningThere was much talk earlier this week, of Windows 10’s warning when users tried to install the Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Vivaldi web browsers, “You already have Microsoft Edge — the safer, faster browser for Windows 10.” The dialog box presented two options: “Open Microsoft Edge” — the default — and “Install anyway.”

The good news, according to CNET, is that a new “fast-ring” test version of Windows, Insider Preview Build 17760, no longer interrupts the installation of rival browsers.

Can you remember old Internet Explorer (IE) browser in the first browser wars two decades ago? That was the time when IE dominance got Microsoft in trouble, with the US Justice Department and the European Commission dragging the company through antitrust proceedings.

Today, Edge – the “safer and faster” browser is struggling to reclaim even a shadow of the dominance it once held with its IE browser. According to StatCounter, the worldwide browser market share is dominated by Chrome (60%) while Edge remains at a dismissive 2 percent!

HomeGroup is gone from Windows 10

Thursday, May 31st, 2018

Windows 10If you are one them who have been using the HomeGroup feature in Windows 10 and did a recent update to the newest version 1803, you will be shocked! HomeGroup is gone.

According to the official post by Microsoft “HomeGroup has been removed from Windows 10 (Version 1803). However, even though it has been removed, you can still share printers and files by using features that are built into Windows 10.”

But wait, there’s more!! It doesn’t appear to be so rosy as mentioned by Microsoft. Windows 10 has issues with showing certain computers over the Windows Network, leaving them invisible in the Network folder of File Explorer.

One of the fixes may be found in the following article, but if you read the replies, you will notice that not all have been delivered from this mess:

Another thing I found is that if you have been accessing mapped network drives and cannot reconnect, even after clicking the “remember by credentials” check box, get to the Credential Manager and respecify the correct path.  This saves it for good!
